When you subscribe, your email address passes through a small relay function that we operate (a Cloudflare Worker) without being stored or logged on our side, and is then handed over to EmailOctopus, the third-party platform that manages our mailing list. A double confirmation (double opt-in) step protects you against unauthorized subscriptions.

Additionally, our policy addresses the inclusion of affiliate links on our site, clarifying that while we earn commissions through these links, we do not collect personal information through them, and any data collection is subject to the affiliate program's privacy policy.

1. Analytics

To understand overall traffic patterns and improve the user experience, we use GoatCounter — an open-source, privacy-friendly analytics service. GoatCounter sets no cookies and stores no persistent identifiers, so it cannot follow you across visits or across other websites. When you load a page, the following information is recorded:

1.1 IP Addresses

GoatCounter does not store IP addresses, the full User-Agent header, or any tracking identifier. Your IP address is used transiently to derive an approximate location and to distinguish unique visits for up to eight hours, after which it is discarded. Nothing in the stored analytics data can be used to identify you personally.

1.2 Use of Analytics Data

The analytics data collected is used solely for the purpose of analyzing website traffic and usage patterns in aggregate. This analysis helps us enhance our website's functionality, performance, and the overall user experience. We do not use analytics data to track individual users or their browsing behavior.

1.3 Where the Data Is Processed and Sharing

Analytics data is processed by GoatCounter.com, operated by Martin Tournoij (Ireland), and stored on servers of Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany and Finland (within the EU). 1.4 Hosting

Our website is served from Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure. As with any website, the servers that deliver our pages process your IP address in order to respond to your requests. We do not use this data to identify, profile, or track visitors.

1.5 Your Rights

In line with data protection laws, you have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, and delete any personal data we may hold about you. Since the analytics data described above contains no personal identifiers, we are not able to link any stored record to you specifically, so exercising these rights regarding analytics data may not be applicable. 2. Cookies and Third-Party Services

Cookies are files with small amount of data, which may include an anonymous unique identifier. Cookies are sent to your browser from a web site and stored on your computer's hard drive.

At Productive Fish, we prioritize your privacy above all. To ensure a secure and private browsing experience, our site does not use first-party or third-party cookies. We use no advertising or cross-site tracking services such as Google Analytics or Google AdSense, and your online activity is not tracked by us across other websites.

2.1 Third-Party Services We Use

We deliberately keep third-party services to a minimum. The few services we do use receive your IP address and browser information as an unavoidable technical part of serving any web request, but none of them set cookies on our site:

All fonts, scripts, and other static resources are hosted on our own infrastructure — nothing else is loaded from third-party servers when you browse our pages.

3. Newsletter subscription

Our site on some of its pages provides a newsletter subscription form that allows users to subscribe to our newsletter. Our subscription service is powered by EmailOctopus (emailoctopus.com), a third-party service provider, to manage our email subscriptions and distribute our newsletters.

3.1 Subscription Process and Data Handling

When you subscribe to our newsletter using the subscription form on our site, your email address is first sent to a small serverless relay function (a Cloudflare Worker) that we operate on the infrastructure of Cloudflare, Inc. The relay passes your address on to EmailOctopus's API without storing or logging it — Cloudflare acts solely as our infrastructure provider (a data processor) for this brief step. We do not collect or store the email addresses of our subscribers on our own systems.

All subscriber data is then managed and stored securely by EmailOctopus, adhering to EmailOctopus's privacy policy and data protection measures. EmailOctopus is operated by Three Hearts Digital Ltd, a company based in the United Kingdom, and subscriber data is stored within the European Economic Area — on Amazon Web Services servers located in Ireland.

3.2 Double Confirmation for Enhanced Security

To further protect your privacy and ensure the authenticity of subscriptions, we apply a double confirmation (also known as double opt-in) process to every subscription. After submitting your email address through our subscription form, you will receive a confirmation email from EmailOctopus. This email contains a verification link that you must click to confirm your subscription. This extra step is crucial for preventing unauthorized subscriptions and ensuring that only genuine subscribers receive our newsletter. Your email address will only appear on our subscription list after you have completed this confirmation step.

3.3 Data Use and Privacy

The email address you provide for the newsletter subscription is exclusively used for the purpose of sending you our newsletter and updates related to Productive Fish. EmailOctopus may collect and use your data according to their own policies, which we recommend reviewing for more information on how they manage subscriber data. We do not use your email address for any other purposes without your explicit consent, nor do we share it with any third parties not involved in the newsletter distribution process.

3.4 Your Rights and Preferences

You have the right to unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time. Each newsletter contains an unsubscribe link that allows you to opt-out of receiving further communications from us. Additionally, you can contact us at any time should you wish to update your email address or have your data removed from the subscriber list.

Our site may contain affiliate links in some of its articles. These links allow us to earn a commission when a user clicks on them and makes a purchase.

We only promote products and services that we believe are of value to our audience. We do not collect any personal information from users through these affiliate links, and any information that is collected is done so by the affiliate program and is subject to their own privacy policies.

5. Contact form

Our contact form asks for your name, your email address, the topic of your message, and the message itself. Only the email address and the message are required.

5.1 How the Data Is Handled

The form submits directly to Google Forms, and the responses are stored in a Google Sheet that only we can access. We use Google LLC as a processor for this; their handling of the data is subject to the Google Privacy Policy. No copy of your message is stored on our own servers.

5.2 What We Use It For

We use the details you provide solely to read and reply to your message. We do not add contact form submissions to our newsletter list, and we do not use them for marketing or share them with anyone else.

5.3 Your Rights and Retention

You may ask us at any time to delete a message you have sent us, and we will remove it from the response sheet. We keep submissions only for as long as they are useful for handling your enquiry.
